Minneriya National Park

Minneriya National Park is best known for “The Gathering,” an annual event where hundreds of elephants gather around the Minneriya Reservoir during the dry season (July to October). This spectacle is considered one of Asia’s greatest wildlife phenomena.

Apart from elephants, Minneriya supports populations of sambar deer, leopards, and endemic birds such as the Sri Lanka hanging parrot. The reservoir also attracts migratory birds like pelicans and painted storks.

Jeep safaris are the primary activity here, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife photography and birdwatching.
